Africatown Plaza

Granite Top, Inc. is proud to have played a role in the transformation of the Africatown Plaza, a dynamic mixed-use development in Seattle’s Central District. As part of this significant community-driven project, Granite Top provided custom kitchen and bath vanity countertops, backsplashes, and various edge treatments for the building’s 126 affordable residential units.

Africatown Plaza, designed to reflect the rich Black experience in the Pacific Northwest, is more than just a place to live—it’s a cultural anchor that connects the neighborhood’s past, present, and future. Situated at the heart of the Midtown Block redevelopment, the project is a collaboration between Africatown Community Land Trust and Community Roots Housing, building on the success of the nearby Liberty Bank Building.

A Heart for the Community

Africatown Plaza is a 7-story, 126-unit apartment building that also includes offices for the Africatown Community Land Trust, neighborhood-focused retail spaces, and vibrant social areas for residents. The building serves as a beacon for affordable housing in a rapidly changing neighborhood, offering stability and cultural affirmation to Seattle’s historically African-American Central District.

The design of Africatown Plaza is rooted in community involvement, with curving forms inspired by African architecture. The building’s striking design incorporates organic shapes and a weathering steel canopy that shelters a communal plaza, symbolizing both strength and permanence—values that resonate deeply within the Africatown community.

Granite Top’s Contribution

Granite Top, Inc. was selected to provide a wide range of high-quality stone surfaces for Africatown Plaza’s residential kitchens and bathrooms. The company’s expertise in delivering durable and beautiful countertops, backsplashes, and edge treatments was a perfect fit for the project’s vision of blending practicality with aesthetic appeal.

For the residential kitchens and bathrooms, Granite Top installed premium granite and quartz countertops that complement the overall design while ensuring longevity and functionality. The intricate backsplash designs and various edge profiles helped enhance the modern yet culturally rooted look of the interiors. Each stone surface was carefully selected to reflect the community’s values—durable, elegant, and timeless.

Granite Top’s skilled team worked closely with the project’s architects and designers to ensure that every detail was executed to perfection, helping Africatown Plaza become a true reflection of the community it serves.
